A great big Man on the Run® Thank you!

We just wanted to say a huge well done and thank you to you for supporting and entering Man on the Run® Herne Bay, Seaford and Braintree 2015.  This year was the 11th year for Herne Bay and the first year for Seaford and Braintree. Despite the rain at Herne Bay and Seaford we feel the events were a great success with a really great atmosphere and we raised £21,096.20.

I am pleased to say that costs were kept to an absolute minimum and so almost every single penny from MotR® 2015 will be donated to Cancer Research UK.

We’re always keen to receive feedback and any comments on how we can improve for the following year, so please feel free to reply and let me know if you have any feedback and/or suggestions for next year! MotR® are local events organised by volunteers and we would be very interested to know if any of you have ideas of people/companies who might be interested in sponsoring the event and any other ways to promote it to increase entries.

Once again, thank you all so much for supporting the event and we look forward to receiving your entries next year.

Cancer we’re coming to get you!

Best wishes

A huge well done & thank you to you all for supporting & entering Man on the Run 2013

We just wanted to say a huge well done and thank you to you all for supporting and entering Man on the Run 2013.  This year was the 9th year and we had 150 more entries than last year, beating our previous best by 50.  I feel the day was a great success with a really great atmosphere.

I am pleased to say that every single penny from Man on the Run 2013 will be donated to MyProjects as we had donations left from last year that covered the small costs we did have this year.

So far including; entry fees, donations, sponsorship handed in on the day and MyProjects online sponsorship funding pages we have raised just under £10,000 which is amazing but I am sure there is more to come.

If you are still collecting sponsor money please address cheques to ‘Man on the Run’ and return to MOTR, 7 Craddock Drive, Canterbury, CT1 1DJ. Don’t forget to return your sponsor forms too so that we can claim any gift aid. Alternatively you can set up a MyProjects page and register your sponsorship there –http://myprojects.cancerresearchuk.org/projects/treating-mens-cancer
If possible, calling your page ‘name surname is a Man on the Run’ would help us to link the money to our event. If you’ve already got a page but not used ‘Man on the Run’ in the title, please let me know as we can then also link this to our grand total.

Whilst it is often referred to as the male equivalent of Race for Life, Man on the Run is a small local event organised by myself as a volunteer in my own time and although I link with Cancer Research UK and am supported by their fund raising area manager they do not organise and fund it like Race for Life, therefore I would be very interested to know if any of you have ideas of people/companies who might be interested in sponsoring the event and any other ways to promote it to increase entries.

I do not do this all alone however and again would like to take this opportunity to let you all know that I couldn’t do it without a few others:

  • Gerry Reilly & The Canterbury Harriers for setting up and marshaling the route and making sure it is safe
  • Gerry and Sean Reilly of Run & Race for their race consultancy and online marketing efforts
  • Dave Hammond for photography
  • R and R Training for providing first aid cover
  • Team Buckley for providing pre and post massages
  • HOPE Spinal Wellness for pre and post massages
  • My friends and family for registration and general set up
  • Ben Roddy for coming along and starting the event
  • Kirsty Pellant for another warm up
  • Becky and Charlie Roberts and their family for leaflet printing and distribution
  • Chloe Williams (Cancer Research UK) for all her help before and on the day

MOTR has a facebook and twitter page, why not join to keep in touch and see photos from this year – www.facebook.com/manontherunrace andwww.twitter.com/ManontheRunCRUK  Also keep an eye on the website nearer the time for 2013 information www.manontherun.org

I am always keen to receive feedback and any comments on how we can improve for the following year, so please feel free to reply and let me know if you have any feedback and/or suggestions for next year, which will be the 10th anniversary!

Once again, thank you all so much for supporting the event and I look forward to receiving your entries next year.

Cancer we’re coming to get you!

Kind regards

Sarah Gower

Six-week Zero to Hero 5K Programme

To help you get in shape for the 2013 Man on the Run Gerry Reilly, running coach at Run & Race and Canterbury Harriers, has developed a Six-week “Zero to Hero” 5K Programme designed to take you from the sofa to the streets and help you on the way to raising awareness of and money to fight male cancers.

The 5K Training Plan assumes you don’t run at all yet , are generally unfit and perhaps need to lose weight. It is designed to get you round your targeted 5K race at a comfortable pace. It is also recommend that you do around 15 minutes of basic flexibility training each day involving gentle mobility exercises to help strengthen muscles and joints and improve your cardiovascular fitness.

Let us know how you are getting on via our Facebook page.
